CBN GRINDING WHEELS

ICBN (cubic boron nitride) is produced synthetically using diamond-like technology. It is less hard, more heat-resistant and contains no carbon. It is the best abrasive for machining hard steels, while the ceramic bond exploits its characteristics to the full.

IThese grinding wheels can be dressed or profiled during the machining process, allowing production cycles which are impossible with other resinoid, metallic and electroplated bonds.

They have a relatively open structure with controlled porosity, higher stock removal capacity and lower wear rates.

Their characteristics, combined with the abrasive properties of CBN, offer very high performance as well as machining time savings which easily offset their higher price.

Their ideal application is internal grinding of steels with a harness of over 58-60 HRC, as excellent stock removal results are obtained, far superior not only to conventional abrasives but also CBN resin- and metal-bonded grinding wheels.

DIAMOND GRINDING WHEELS
The porous structure of ceramic-bonded diamond grinding wheels allows cooling to be optimised, which is extremely important as at over 700°C diamond becomes graphite and completely loses its abrasive properties.

We produce wheels that are ideal for vertical-axis and continuous-rim grinding or for grinding with pads or segments. Our new ceramic bonds enable us to obtain extremely hard grinding wheels which are suitable for tool sharpening.

We achieve excellent results with pad-based wheels in grinding spherical valves with hard-metal-coated surfaces for the oil industry.

MARKING OF GRINDING WHEELS
Our marking system accurately classifies all of the characteristics and specifications of our grinding wheels.
For example, the code 100x20x25 - F20x5 - 1A1 - 2B 91 C100 N5 VB indicates:

100x20x25 exterior dimensions (diam. x thickness x hole)
F20x5 rim section
1A1 shape, according to FEPA standards
2B abrasive, CBN (B) or diamond (D)

PARAMETERS OF USE, DRESSING. COOLANTS
We can advise on suitable parameters of use (such as depth of cut per pass, rotation of the workpiece, increment and peripheral speed of the grinding wheel), which can influence their machining performance. With ceramic bond, grinding wheels can be redressed or reprofiled directly on the machine, using alternatively small diamond wheels rotating at high speed, diamond or crushing rollers, pad-based dressing tools or brake-controlled machines. These operations always require large amounts of coolant and it may be necessary – especially after using brake-controlled dressing tools or machines – to recondition the grinding wheel with abrasive sticks in corundum to restore them to their full grinding capacity. We recommend the use of light, low-viscosity straight oil which also acts as a lubricant, reducing friction and thus extending the life of the grinding wheel and improving the grade of finish. Various types of emulsifiable oils, but always in relatively high concentrations (at least 5-6%). Dry machining is to be avoided.
